HELLO NEIGHBOUR
Two hundred letters were dropped into the mailboxes of my neighbours in Jun 2024 as an attempt to say hello to my neighbours and invite them to do the same through hand-written letters.
“Since when, our mailbox has been full of utility bills and taxes, and we have forgotten the excitement of sending and receiving letters.“
Letters received from neighbours
I received many letters from my neighbours from children to adults. Many shared about their daily life, things they like, places they have visited, pets, families, and more. Some of them even include stickers, postcards, craft gifts inside the letters.
When Hello Neighbour was born
This Hello Neighbour project dates back to 2021. I was living in Rotterdam at the time. It was the pandemic and it was impossible to say hello face-to-face. I had the idea to say hello to my neighbours with my window instead. So I decided to decorate my entire window with paper cutouts saying "Hello Neighbour, let's decorate".
I made a postcard for the street I lived in and distributed this leaflet to everyone's mailbox. Some of my neighbours decorated their window too.
